Wondering why GTA 6 Trailer 3 is taking so long? Rockstar already answered that question 14 years ago

It seems like the entire games industry is collectively waiting for the next trailer for GTA 6. We're just under one year removed from the second slab of footage, with nary a sign of anything else happening on the publicity trail. But, as it turns out, Rockstar explained why this happens a long time ago.

As uncovered by GTA 6 Countdown on Twitter, Rockstar commented on the piecemeal PR campaign for GTA 5 back in 2012, revealing it's simply a matter of things being ready when they're ready. "We have often had long gaps between asset releases on previous games and will continue to do so in the future. We are sorry if you find this frustrating," the studio said, in a news blast dated July 2012 (thanks, Kotaku).

Rockstar added that it's not "because we 'don't care about our fans', 'don't respect our fans', 'hate GTA fans.'" The studio stated that it's actually "precisely the opposite," and more about putting out something that'll really get the job done.

"We do it because we want to make sure we only release 100% correct information, and because we want to keep plenty back for the actual game release so there are still lots of surprises when you play it," the statement continued.

These comments touch on a similar perspective from a former dev on Grand Theft Auto 5 and 6, who pointed out that until the game is shipped, everything is transient, and the trailer is just a particular slice of what's coming. For a production the scale of GTA 6, a gigantic playground that's been built to support players exploring and playing for years and years, figuring out what to even tease and how to get those assets ready must be laborious processes.

"The only things we care about are that you enjoy the experience of actually playing the game and that we release accurate information," Rockstar said in 2012, and I'd believe it just as much today. We'll get more when we get more – the big question is whether the game still makes the November release window. Fingers crossed.

GTA 6 PC release remains unconfirmed, but Rockstar leak reveals that could be because GTA Online gets 97% of its cash from consoles
