New PS5 update improves system performance

A new PS5 update is out right now for all to download, and it's focusing in improving system performance.

The new PS5 system software update, which is dubbed 'version 21.01-03.21.00,' is now available to download in all regions. The new update for PlayStation's next-gen console weighs in at approximately 902MB, but the only change through the patch is that it makes improvements to the system performance.

This is going by the patch notes that you can see through the PS5 itself, after you've downloaded the new update. It's entirely possible that other fixes could be in the new update, but haven't been mentioned by the on-console patch notes.

Such was the case earlier this year in April, when a brand new PS5 update quietly addressed the console's disc spinning issue. Users were reporting that the PS5 was periodically making a large amount of noise when spinning an inserted disc for no reason at all, but the update back in April removed the bug, effectively quietening down the disc spinning, without any formal announcement or acknowledgment from Sony, PlayStation, or the on-console patch notes.

Sony is still in the process of getting PS5s out to those looking to buy, with shortages beings a major issue for many in all regions around the world. While it’s been reported that 8.6 million consoles have been sold, supply is still falling behind demand. Unfortunately, that is expected to carry over into the next months and possibly even into next year.

However, for those lucky enough to have gotten their hands on the console, a powerhouse exclusive is ready to drop. Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is gaining a ton of applause as one of the best games on the console, with our review stating: "The series has always been a marker for what PlayStation exclusives can do with the power of a new console, and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is upholding that tradition."
