Disney Plus free trial - everything you need to know in 2021

Shopping around for a Disney Plus free trial? We don't blame you as it's always nice to see if there's a free way to try out a streaming service before signing up and paying.

Well, we've got good news and bad news. The bad news is that the trial is no longer available in most countries, including the US, UK, and Canada. The good news though is that a single month of Disney Plus is seriously cheap at just $7.99/£7.99/CA$11.99. And don't forget, if you sign up for a monthly sub, you can cancel at any time, so you can take Disney Plus out for a spin, binge a few seasons and movies, and then cancel if you don't want to keep it. For the price of a few coffees, we think the monthly fee is fantastic value.

The free trial was ditched in June last year, so we wouldn't hold out hope for it coming back anytime soon. We've gone into greater detail about the latest prices and packages available in each country below. Or you can head on over to the Disney Plus website and give it a go.

For everyone that can't get hold of the Disney Plus free trial, we'd recommend looking into the latest Disney Plus bundles that are available in your region. They're very affordable, with a single month starting at just $7.99 in the US, $11.99 in Canada/Australia, and £7.99 in the UK. There's even an offer in the US where you get Hulu and ESPN Plus with your Disney Plus membership, all at $13.99 per month. For context, that's roughly the same cost as a Standard HD month of Netflix for triple the amount of content. Lovely. You can even get a version of the deal without Hulu ads for $19.99, which is very much appreciated considering how annoying some of those ads can be.

Wondering why it costs more than it did a few weeks ago? Well, a small Disney Plus price increase just landed. This is due to the fact that Disney's investing big time in its streaming service via original shows (namely, there's going to be 10 Marvel and 10 Star Wars series in the next few years alone). As for the UK, Canada, and Australia, the price hike was to cover dozens of new shows and movies - including mature content like Family Guy that's protected behind parental controls should you need them - via the Star add-on. Basically, there's a lot to look forward to.

Unsure about whether you want to commit? Thanks to the lack of a Disney Plus free trial, we'd recommend taking the plunge on a single month and then canceling it before your subscription rolls over (we bet you'll keep it though!). This should give you a good taste of what the service is offering, especially because you can watch Soul or watch WandaVision. The season has just finished so you can smash through it all in a day or two.

Can you still get a Disney Plus free trial?

The Disney Plus free trial was taken down last year in most countries around the world, with only a few territories still able to enjoy one today. The US, UK, Canada, and Australia no longer have one, unless a secondary merchant is promoting a bundle offer. We've seen freebies offered by the likes of Verizon and Xbox Game Pass occasionally. The disappearance tells you everything you need to know about how popular Disney Plus is right now - the company didn't feel the need to keep it.

The Disney Plus free trial is still available in certain parts of the world, though. It generally tends to be in countries that haven't had the streaming service for that long.

With the service launching in Hong Kong, Singapore, and South Korea at some point this year, we expect users over there will get a Disney Plus free trial as well. It could be a bit longer than expected, too; Japan has access to a full 31-day free trial (!). We've listed every region that still gets a free trial below.

  • Argentina
  • Bolivia
  • Brazil
  • Chile
  • Colombia
  • Costa Rica
  • Mexico
  • Peru
  • Japan

For the rest of us, the vanishing act of the Disney Plus free trial is frustrating. It originally provided users with seven days of the streaming service at no cost, allowing them full access to its library without any restrictions. That was a handy way of finding out if you wanted to commit, and it was also a good way to blaze through the likes of The Mandalorian Season 2 before canceling your membership (which is probably why the free trial got binned off in the first place, to be honest). It's especially painful considering the fact that shows such as The Falcon and the Winter Soldier are now here.

Given the low monthly fees, though, it's not too bad really in the grand scheme of things.

Will the Disney Plus free trial come back?

If you're wondering whether the Disney Plus free trial will ever return, we can't say for certain. But judging how well the streaming service is doing at the moment, we wouldn't count on it.

Luckily, those who decide to invest without having access to a Disney Plus free trial won't find their bank balance suffering too much. Folks in the US can grab the service at costs $7.99 per month, Canadians and Australians can get in on the action for $11.99p/m, and UK viewers only need to pay £7.99p/m.

Disney Plus deals and offers

Cheesed off that the Disney Plus free trial is gone? Don't worry, it's not a total disaster. Disney Plus itself is surprisingly affordable, and there are plenty of deals available to get you the service for less. We've listed the latest offers below.

Because these prices recently went up, they should stay pretty stable for the next year or so as well.

Disney Plus - US rates

Disney Plus (monthly) | $7.99 per month
A normal, middle-of-the-road month of Disney Plus comes in at a pretty reasonable $6.99 per month. When you stop and think about how much you're getting, that's not bad - all subscribers gain access to a library with Star Wars, Marvel, Disney, Pixar, National Geographic, The Simpsons, and more. Now that the Disney Plus free trial is gone, it's the cheapest option.

Disney Plus (one year) | $79.99 one-off payment
In it for the long haul? The most sensible option is to pick up a full year for $79.99. It slashes the price of Disney Plus by $16 (or two full months) overall, and it's one of the best possible offers for sheer bang-to-buck ratio.

Disney Plus, Hulu, and ESPN Plus package | $13.99 per month
So far as we're concerned, this is the best Disney Plus offer out there. The bundle provides three services for the cost of a single month of Standard HD Netflix; besides Disney Plus itself, you're getting mature dramas via Hulu and a wealth of sports from ESPN Plus. This triple-threat of content gets you one of those services for free, too; the overall cost would be closer to $20 if you were buying them all one by one.

Disney Plus+ Hulu (no ads) + ESPN Plus | $19.99 per month
This bundle is exactly the same as the one above, but with one key difference - you're avoid those annoying ads on Hulu. Because these regularly interrupt whatever you're watching (and are more frequent if you're viewing something new or popular), it's worth the extra six bucks in our opinion.

1-year Disney Plus gift card | $79.99 at Disney Plus
Want to give Disney Plus away as a present? This is the offer for you. Because it's digital, it can be delivered instantaneously - perfect for those of us who have left the present-buying a bit late. Just remember that it can only be redeemed by new subscribers.

Disney Plus - Canadian rates

Disney Plus (monthly) | $11.99 per month
How much will a month of Disney Plus set you back in Canada? Just $12. That's not too bad, all things considered - you're still getting access to the full library with no restrictions, not to mention the new Star service. That takes the sting out of losing the Disney Plus free trial.

Disney Plus (one year) | $119.99 one-off payment
Settling in for the long haul with Disney Plus? You get maximum bang for buck by signing up for a full year at $120. This saves you around $24 on the standard monthly cost of Disney Plus, and you're getting all of the new goodies that the Star channel has to offer.

Disney Plus - UK rates

Disney Plus (monthly) | £7.99 per month
Looking for the cheapest way of getting the streaming service now that the Disney Plus free trial is gone? This standard £8 monthly subscription is your best bet. It gives you access to everything the service has to offer, from Star Wars to Marvel. It's now got the Star channel as well, serving as a home for more mature content.

Disney Plus (one year) | £79.90 one-off payment
Want to be ready to watch all of the upcoming Disney Plus shows as and when they appear? Paying a one-off fee of £80 will get you the streaming service for a full year. You'll save roughly £16 in the process compared to the monthly cost, too.

Disney Plus gift card (1 year) | £79.90 at Disney Plus
Want a good present for the Disney fan in your life? A gift card is a good place to start. It's delivered to any email address at any time you like, making it perfect as a last-minute present. Just remember that it can only be redeemed by new subscribers.

Disney Plus - Australian rates

Disney Plus (monthly) | $11.99 per month
A standard month of Disney Plus will set you back $12 in Australia and $12.99 in New Zealand. It's a shame that the Disney Plus free trial is gone, but that's not too bad considering everything you're getting for your money - including the new Star channel.

Disney Plus (one year) | $119.99 one-off payment
Getting hold of a full year of Disney Plus provides the best value for money - at $120 in Australia and $129.99 in New Zealand, it saves you the equivalent of two months compared to the standard fee. Once again, you're getting everything on Disney Plus and Star for that price.
